SYNCHRONICITY

Each sees the warp and grain of the upcoming curve. Each selects the perfect track. In step they harmoniously countersteer, lean, rip the corner, smile so broadly their jaws ache.

This is the essence of motocycle riding. This is two wheeled synchronicity.

Synchronicity describes the experience of my riding with my best friend over the past 20 years.

The equipment has changed over time. We often had diametrically opposed bikes such as my '87 Honda Hurricane and his '90 Electra Glide Police Special. I had to adjust my riding style to maintain the synchronicity, but it did'nt diminish the quality of the ride.

Years later the equipment did a 180, with me on an '04 Electra Glide Standard and my friend on his '04 BMW R 1150R. There had been several mismatched rides in between, but the joy of riding with a true enthusiast friend overcame any performance advantage a certain bike had in a certain situation.

Today I have a Buell XB12X that I am able to truley enjoy riding with my friend and his BMW. There is more of a parity in these steeds that makes the synchronicity, well, more synchronous for lack of a better word.

I'm glad I stumbled on to your blog today. I'm sitting in my house during a March first blizzard, daydreaming of my next ride. Please keep posting.

  2. Thanks for your insightful comments, Tim. I'm glad you have a synchronic riding partner.

And don't worry, I'll keep writing.
